0:20 So all week I've been talking about legacy. 0:22 So we've been talking about the things that we will pass down to our progeny. 0:26 And so for me specifically, I described a bunch of things that I will be passing down to my sons. 0:31 I talked about my grandfather's 79 Ford, my watches, my personal Bibles, and my personal Bible journals. 0:37 And as good as I plan to care for those things, and as much as I'm going to try to protect their transfer, all of those things might get lost. 0:45 Like they could all burn up in a fire. 0:47 But there is one thing that I think may resound more than any of those things, and it's something that I have previously called my love letter to my sons, and that is every episode of my main show, Undaunted Life of Man's podcast, and also every episode of this podcast, a Daily Blade. 1:04 So it's my very words. 1:06 So as long as there's an internet and you know energy running through things, and as long as there's a server somewhere spinning, my voice and my wisdom will be available to my sons. 1:17 I even have every word and every video that I've ever done for both shows backed up on hard drives and they're sitting in my safe right now. 1:24 And so I look at my shows as time capsules. 1:28 So it's there to show my sons what I thought was important and what I was learning and working through in the past. 1:34 So it's my way of reaching out and touching them and helping them, even you know, after I'm long gone. 1:39 So I was thinking about that, and I was thinking about the writer of Hebrews, likely Paul, and what he said in Hebrews 11, verse 4. 1:47 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous. 1:53 God commended him by accepting his gifts, and through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. 2:00 So he's talking about Abel, the son of the first man and the first woman, and a son who died all the way back in Genesis chapter four. 2:07 But the writer of Hebrews says, in the present tense, that he still speaks. 2:13 So that's what a recorded voice can do that a truck or a watch or even someone's memory cannot do. 2:19 It keeps talking long after you're gone. 2:22 So it's not like a ghost, but it's it's a testimony. 2:25 Your faith, once spoken and preserved, doesn't go silent just because your body gives out. 2:30 So in Deuteronomy 31, we see Moses doing something almost identical to this. 2:34 We see there's some verse 19. 2:37 Now therefore write this song and teach it to the people of Israel. 2:40 Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the people of Israel. 2:45 So Moses knew he wasn't going to be there to continually correct the next generation in person. 2:50 So he put the truth in a form that would outlast his own bodily presence. 2:54 So he put it in the form of words that they could carry forward generation after generation, long after he was in the grave. 2:59 And in Psalm 145, verse 4, that puts words exactly to what I'm talking about right here. 3:05 One generation shall commend your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts. 3:10 And that is really the core point of my main show in this show in a single verse. 3:16 It's one generation, in this case me, commending God's work to the next generation, in this case my sons, and every other man who will listen, so that it keeps moving forward long after I'm not the one saying it anymore. 3:30 So here's the truth that I've been building towards all week. 3:34 A truck teaches stewardship, a watch teaches the way to time, a Bible with my name on it declares whose house this is, journals with my handwriting inside of them prove the faith was real and not performative, but none of those things have a single soul attached to them. 3:51 If my sons inherit a garage full of meaningful and valuable objects but miss the gospel of Jesus Christ, I have failed miserably and completely as their father. 4:02 You see, every object that I described this week was a signpost, not a destination. 4:06 And Lord willing, one day, as they are driving their grandfather's truck, I want them thinking about the gospel of Jesus Christ. 4:14 When they look down at their wrists and see their dad's watch keeping time, I want them to think of the gospel of Jesus. 4:20 When they thumb through one of my personal Bibles or any of my Bible journals, I want them to think of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 4:28 So let's make it plain here. 4:29 Jesus Christ lived the perfect life you and I could never live, died the death you and I deserved, and rose from the grave to prove God accepted that payment in full. 4:39 I mean, to telesty, paid in full. 4:42 That is the only inheritance that cannot rust. 4:45 It cannot be stolen and it cannot fade away. 4:47 It's an imperishable inheritance kept in heaven for everyone who is in Christ. 4:53 So I've talked all week to all of you, but this final message is to my boys, James and Elijah. 5:01 Boys, if you're listening to this, hey, I may not be there to say it to your face, but everything that I gave you in life was a picture pointing to one thing. 5:14 That truck might stop running, that watch might wear out, but this will not. 5:19 God is real. 5:20 He sent his real son to this earth to die in your place, he paid your sin debt so that you could have eternal life. 5:28 Transfer your faith from yourself to the finished work at the cross. 5:33 Trust Christ, give your entire life to him, serve him always. 5:38 That is the legacy of the Thompsons. 5:40 And in the end,
