Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the sword of the Spirit, the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.

Speaker 2:

So today we're getting into element 10 of a godly man. But let's go ahead and recap where we've gone so far. Element 1, a godly man has surrendered his life to Christ. Element 2, a godly man is selfless. Element 3, a godly man strives for holiness. Element 4, a godly man is repentant. Element 5, a godly man loves his wife as Christ loved the church. Element 6, a godly man is sexually pure. Element 7, a godly man is sexually pure. Element seven a godly man protects his mind. So today we're getting into element eight of a godly man, and that is a godly man is humble. So here's the thing, guys If you have a sexy talent right, if you've succeeded in preferable areas, or if you've won some things, or if you have people following you because of how awesome they think that you are, it can be really hard to remain humble.

Speaker 2:

So so one thing that I do cause I mentioned, you know, back on element one I got I kind of have a weird job, so I get to go places and put a microphone on my face and talk in front of people, and so you're kind of the center of attention for an hour and then people, once you get off stage, they want to talk to you and they want to do all that type of stuff. I really use that as an opportunity to come low, to humble myself, to learn more about them, as opposed to just like elevating myself and my ego, right. So one of the tricks that I use is I try to ask six questions about them before I will answer any questions about me. If you think that's easy, try it the next time you meet somebody for the first time. But what is perhaps the biggest problem with not being humble is that we run the risk of forgetting that all good things come from God and he ultimately deserves all the credit. So I was reminded of James 1, verses 17 and 18 here. Every good gift not some of them every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change Of his own will. He brought us forth, by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. Okay, so everything good, everything good that we've done or will do or that comes from something that we've done, is because of him he set us up for it right.

Speaker 2:

And here's the thing, guys. Why is it a good idea to humble ourselves? Because humility actually yields good outcomes. So let's go into some shotgun scriptures here. Proverbs 11.2, when pride comes, then comes disgrace. But with the humble is wisdom. Proverbs 22.4, the reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. And then Philippians 2.3,.

Speaker 2:

And it's not just that humility yields good outcomes. Whenever you know, it's what God does for people that humble themselves. Right, he honors them. We see this throughout Scripture. Let's go to James 4.10.

Speaker 2:

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. 1 Peter 5.6. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that, at the proper time, he may exalt you. Matthew 23, verse 12. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Guys, it's all over the scripture, but here's my big point for today. Okay, so if you only take away one thing, take away this you would rather humble yourself than for God to do it. Or, boy, some of y'all know exactly what I'm talking about, because your stomach sank when I said that, Because if that happened to you, it's probably because God humbled you at some point. And so we would much rather do that on our own than to have God do it.

Speaker 2:

Let's go to James 4, 6. But he gives more grace. Therefore, it says God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. That's a reference to Proverbs 3.34. God's not just an inactive bystander. He opposes the proud right. But ultimately, if we are to be like Christ, we must humble ourselves. Okay, but Christ, the reason why we are supposed to be like him, is because he was the most humble, and not just for his sake but for us. That's a whole reason he was sent here.

Speaker 2:

Last scripture of the day Philippians, two verses, five through eight. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours, in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God. Guys, if you want to walk around with your chest out and your head up high, let's make sure we're doing that for the right reasons. Because I promise you again my one big takeaway you would rather humble yourself than for God to do it. Element eight of a godly man a godly man is humble. So we only have two elements left. Come back here tomorrow for element nine.
